In the pecking order of any village in Sri Lanka, the chief had the best of the best – when it came to his home too. We have followed suit in recreating our own Chieftain’s Cottage: there’s plenty of room, with a private pool including little features that any chief would have been proud of.
Built on the former headman’s old home, the cottage sits in the shade of trees, its long patio dappled in leafy shadows. Old wooden floors, high ceilings and terracotta roof tiles keep the heat at bay. The furniture is vintage, understated and minimal, enhancing the sense of space. The decor in muted colours is simple, yet the aura of comfort prevails throughout the cottage. There are two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The master bedroom features a terrace, while the second bedroom has a balcony. The plunge pool is accessible to both.
